Engraved vs. Raised: Which Logo Style is Best for Your Custom Soap?
Engraved or raised logo on your custom soap? Compare durability, look, feel and unmoulding care to choose the right finish for your bars.

When you design a custom soap mould, one of the first choices is how your logo sits on the bar. It can be engraved (pressed into the soap) or raised (standing up from the surface).
Both look great. They behave differently, though, especially as the bar is used. Here's how to choose.
Engraved logos: pressed into the bar
With an engraved finish, your logo is pressed down into the face of the soap, like a debossed business card. To create it, the logo stands up in the base of the mould.
Why it's our most popular choice
- It lasts longer. As the bar wears down in the shower, the surface erodes evenly. An engraved logo is recessed, so it stays visible for much of the bar's life.
- Clean, classic look. It gives a crisp, understated finish that suits most brands, from minimalist to traditional.
- Easy unmoulding. The logo detail stands up in the mould, so the bar lifts away cleanly with fewer fragile edges to catch.
- Forgiving with fine detail. Lettering and thin lines hold their shape well.
Best for: everyday retail bars, wholesale, hotel and guest soaps, and any bar meant to be used rather than displayed.
Raised logos: standing proud of the bar
With a raised finish, your logo stands up from the surface of the soap, like an embossed seal. To create it, the logo is cut down into the base of the mould.
Why people love it
- Highly tactile. You can feel the logo under your fingers, which gives the bar a premium, handcrafted feel.
- Bold on the shelf. Light catches the raised edges, so the design stands out in photos and displays.
- Luxurious for gifting. It suits wedding favours, gift sets and limited editions where the first impression matters most.
What to bear in mind
- It wears first. The raised logo is the highest point of the bar, so it softens sooner with use.
- It needs more care when unmoulding. The soap has to release from inside the recessed design, so fine details can tear if you rush. Let bars set fully, and give soft recipes extra time or an hour in the freezer before unmoulding.
- Keep details bold. Very thin lines and tiny text can snap off a raised design more easily than an engraved one.
Side by side
| Engraved | Raised | |
|---|---|---|
| How it looks | Pressed into the bar | Stands up from the bar |
| Durability in use | Lasts longer | Softens sooner |
| Feel | Smooth, subtle | Tactile, luxurious |
| Unmoulding | Easier | Needs more patience |
| Fine lettering | Very good | Keep it bold |
| Best for | Everyday and retail bars | Gifts, favours, display bars |
Still not sure?
- If your soap will be used every day, choose engraved.
- If your soap is a gift or a display piece, and first impressions matter most, choose raised.
- If your logo has very fine detail or small text, engraved is the safer choice.
